Gregory Day, History, 1986

Greg Day is an attorney in Oregon where he practices family, criminal and disability law. He served as an infantry officer in the Sinai, Egypt and in Afghanistan, and commanded an infantry battalion in Iraq. He is the recipient of two Bronze Stars and the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, and is currently a Colonel with the National Guard.

He has a Bachelor of Arts in History from Humboldt State University, a Master of Arts in Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College, and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Oregon School of Law.

Greg lives on the Rogue River in Grants Pass, Oregon where his family enjoys white-water rafting, scuba diving, and backpacking together.

After nearly two years as a newsreporter in Idaho and Oregon, I've returned to Dorris, California where I work for the Butte Valley Unified School District as a Teacher's Aide/Library Technician. Currently I'm taking online classes through Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo, Calif., majoring in Library/Information Technology. I still have great memories of Humboldt County and Humboldt State University and hope to visit the area again in the future.

Kathryn Riley recently joined the San Diego URS Corporation as a Wildlife Biologist. She is currently conducting wildlife surveys on alternative energy projects in the Sonoran and Mojave deserts of California. Her focus is on migratory birds, burrowing owls and the federally endangered desert tortoise.

In 2012-2013, I will be a research fellow at the American Antiquarian Society thanks to an AAS-NEH grant, and will also be a visiting scholar at the Princeton Institute for Advanced Studies. My project is a study of the shifting notion of equality in America, circa 1600-1880. Two years ago, my sixth book, _King Philip’s War: Colonial Expansion, Native Resistance, and the End of Indian Sovereignty_, was published by Johns Hopkins University Press for general readers and college survey classes; it was named an “Outstanding Academic Title” by _Choice_ magazine.

After graduating from HSU, and getting my teaching credential in 1971, I started my teaching career at Delano High School in Delano, Ca. I taught history developed its Mock Trial program and eventually became department chairman.I retired in 2008 after teaching 38 yrs.

After serving as the principal of St. Lucy School, a K-8 school in San Jose, I have just been appointed to the role of President of Carondelet High School, an all-girls Catholic school of 800 students located next to its partner boys' school De La Salle in Concord, CA. After graduating with an MA in Counseling Psychology in 1990, I served at the Dean of Students and Head Counselor at Presentation High School, San Jose, for 12 years. Following that I was the Academic Dean at Woodside Priory School in Portola Valley for 3 years, then moved into the principalship at St. Lucy School. I am proud to say that I use my training in counseling psychology in my work every single day.

I've been working as a substitute teacher for the Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District since December 2011. As of April 2012 I was hired on as field technician for Far Western Anthropological Research Group, Inc. -based in Davis, CA. The project is in Vacaville, CA.
