I was president of Scientific Steering Committee for the 6th and 7th International Deer Biology Congresses (2006 and 2010, respectively) and am continuing to serve at this capacity for the 8th congress. I'm currently affiliated as Research Scientist with Institute Analysis of Natural Resources (IARN)
Universidad Atlántida Argentina
Mar del Plata, Argentina
and am conducting research on highly endangered native and exotic deer in S. America with husband, Werner Flueck, a Swiss citizen, who graduated in 1982 from Humboldt with two bachelor degrees in Wildlife Management and Zoology. He went on to get his PhD at UC Davis in Pathology while I got my Masters there in Ecology. I later went on to obtain my doctorate in Biology at the Univ. Nacional del Comahue in Argentina. We were the main organizers for the recent 7th International Deer Biology Congress held in Huilo Huilo Reserve, Chile.

I am living in Portland, Oregon with my family. I teach Chemistry, Physics, and Earth Science to high school students. I am building on the excellent science education I received at HSU by taking prerequisites to go back to school to study evolutionary psychology. I loved going to school at Humboldt, and I visit the Arcata area with my family every chance I get.

I have been selling real estate as a Realtor-Broker in Stockton since 1985. I am a CDPE Certified Distressed Property Expert working with CENTURY 21 Exchange Realty. Stockton has been in the top 5 of the nation for the last several years for having lots of Foreclosures. There are great deals to be had here. My sister Mary Conway class of 1972, also graduated from HSU with a Biology degree & resides in Monterey. Her son John Conway just graduated from HSU with a business degree 2009. We have relished our introduction to the great outdoors & still hook up with our Humboldt buddies regularly. A core group of 30 HSU friends has met at an annual campout reunion for over 30 years. Some of our best friends are alumni.

Since graduating from HSU in 1989 with a BS Degree in Biology I have had several jobs, with only one being remotely related to biology (a one year stint at molecular biology lab). Most of my jobs have been in the clinical and immunochemistry chemistry field. For the last 5 years my job as a lab technician and fluid analyst at John Deere in my hometown of Waterloo, Iowa, has been perhaps the most challenging. What I learned at HSU has provided me with the skills to adapt not only changing jobs, but also to jobs as they change. I recently was promoted to Program Manager so I will be given yet another chance to see what other skills I may have learned in college will be called upon to provide me with the ability to perform my new position to the best of my abilities. Just goes to show that a college education can provide you not only with the ability to perform specific jobs, but also the ability to perform many different types of jobs.
Thank You HSU!

I'm celebrating 15 years of retirement after a 35 year career with the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service; about to celebrate 50 years of marriage to Sally Harris (we met in the dorms at Humboldt 1959); and am finishing up the manuscript for my fifth book, this one of California history as told by the California condor story.
