September 22, 2017—A fund that provides students hands-on learning experience and supports HSU’s goal of being a climate positive campus just received a major boost.

Humboldt State University’s Advancement Foundation board – which is made up of volunteers
and donors who work to raise money for the University and advocate for philanthropy – recently
helped raise $107,000 for the Go Green Fund. The fund provides internships for students
working on clean energy projects across campus, giving them valuable real world experience as
they evaluate and develop strategies to reduce energy use. The fund also
provides resources to pay for sustainability improvements identified by the Go Green interns.

Launched in 2015 by the HSU Advancement Foundation, the Go Green Fund will make it
possible for students to play a vital, hands-on role in implementing the University’s Climate
Action Plan, which includes strategies to ease the campus’ ecological footprint. This work might
include things like more efficient lighting, reduced heating costs, and better monitoring of utility
usage.

"Donors gave generously to help HSU students make our campus greener and more
sustainable. A special thanks to everyone who helped make this campaign a success," says
Foundation Board member and Chair of the Philanthropy and Advocacy Committee Laura
Fisher (Geology, ‘84).

The Go Green student-interns, in collaboration with HSU’s Office of Sustainability, will begin
work this fall. Thanks to donors and board members, this successful fundraising campaign not
only empowers students to make HSU more sustainable, but also gives students the tools to
make our world a better place.
